Health Checks

Everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and some forms of dementia. The good news is that these conditions can often be prevented, even if you have a family history of them. The NHS Health Check can help you by assessing your risk of developing these health problems and giving you personalised advice on how to reduce it.

Derby City residents aged between 40 and 74 are being encouraged to get a free NHS Health Check at their GP practice.

The check involves:

  • having your blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked
  • you will be asked about family history
  • checking any relevant medication you are taking
  • recording some details such as age, height and weight.

After the check you will be taken through the results and may be given personalised advice on how to lower your risk and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
