We have swimming pools in two of our sports centres - Moorways Sports Complex and Queen's Leisure Centre. We run a range of casual swimming sessions, including Adult only swim, Family swim and Adult and toddler.

Please note: during certain times of the day, our pools close to the public to allow for swimming lessons and other closed sessions. Please see our swimming programmes for public swimming times.

Pool programmes

Swimming sessions for the family

  • Splashout Fun – fun in the water with floats and toys. Suitable for all ages.
  • Family Swim – for adults with children under eight years old.
  • Adult and toddler – for adults with children under five years old.
  • Casual Swim.

Swimming sessions for adults

  • Active Living – for older people and people who are new to exercise or returning after a long break.
  • Adult only.
  • Laned swim – with one to five lanes for a more structured swim.
  • Women only swimming sessions
  • Women only. *
  • Women and Toddler – for women only with children under five years old. *

* We cannot guarantee there will be a female instructor for these sessions. We recommend you contact us before your visit.

Can anyone use your swimming pools?

You don’t have to be a member to use our swimming pools, you can just turn up and pay for your session. If you want to use our pools more than once or twice a week you may find that our great value bfit memberships or Passport to Leisure cards will save you money.

  • Concessionary: Under 16 year olds, over 60 year olds, unemployed and disabled people.
  • Active Living: For over 50 year olds.
  • Recreation Passport holders: Free swimming from 9.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday during casual swimming sessions.
  • Four year olds and under: Swim for free.

Learn to swim

Anyone can learn to swim in our swimming pools. We have an award winning Learn to Swim scheme which follows a national teaching plan, and we run lessons for anyone from four months old.

Our Learn to Swim courses run during term times for adults and children, Intensive Learn to Swim courses for children during school holidays, and One to One lessons.

Learn to Swim courses - Term time

  • Summer term: From week commencing 14th April to week ending 22nd July 2012 - 14 weeks.
  • Autumn term: From week commencing 3rd September to week ending 9th December 2012 - 14 weeks.

General enrolment for the Autumn Term is from Saturday 21nd July, 5.00pm at Moorways Swimming Pool or Sunday 22nd July, 9.00am at Queen's Leisure Centre.

Term time courses and lessons include:

  • Turtles: For adults with babies or toddlers aged four months to three years to build confidence and water skills.
  • Swim Ducklings: For two to four year olds with a parent in the water, teaching basics for Stage 1.
  • Stages 1 to 7: Teaches a wide range of skills and strokes.
  • Other Aquatic Activities, Stages 8 to 10: Includes Competitive Swimming, Flip ‘n’ Fun, and Rookie Lifeguard.
  • Elite Squad: For swimmers who have completed all stages but would like to continue swimming in fun environment.
  • Learn to Swim for disabled children: With a parent in the water teaching skills and strokes so children can progress onto other levels.
  • Learn to Swim for older children: For children aged eight and over who missed learning to swim when younger. Learn water confidence, stamina and stroke technique.
  • Learn to Swim for adults: For adults who have never learnt to swim or are nervous in the water. We run beginner, intermediate, advanced and women only lessons.
  • One to One lessons: Dedicated lessons for children or adults to improve quicker and concentrate on individual needs.
