The Leader of the Council has listened to concerned raised by residents and, having spoken to many residents over the weekend once back from holiday, is proud to announce that those black bins not emptied last week due to the industrial action will be emptied this week.
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Banwait, says the people of Derby must be listened to:
“Last week’s industrial action was provoked by the government’s repeated and unprecedented attacks on the public sector. This is the same reason that the Council administration has been campaigning for a Fair Deal for Derby, lobbying central government for funding to protect Council services that matter to us all.
However, the people of Derby are already under strain because of the government’s austerity agenda and the cost of living crisis. I would like to thank all of those residents who got in touch with me last week. I made a commitment to them to do all I can to find a solution and acting on the people’s concerns have arranged for black bins to be emptied this week.”
Anyone whose bin was not emptied last week, should put their black bin out as detailed below:
If your black bin for general waste was not emptied on Thursday (10th July) due to the strike action we are planning to reschedule your black bin collection to this week.
Place your black bin out in its usual place for collection from 6.30am on Wednesday (16th July). We plan to return to empty your bin on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday so please leave it out. (Your blue bin recycling collection due on Thursday (17th July) will happen as usual).
Please do not report your black bin as being missed. We will not action any reported missed bins in the affected areas as we are rescheduling the collection.
If your blue bin recycling collection was missed on Thursday (10th July) we are sorry but we will be unable to return until your next due collection on Thursday 24th July.
Those signed-up to the brown bin service have a rescheduled brown bin collection on Thursday (17th July) and the customers affected have been contacted.
