Full Street is due to reopen to traffic this Thursday (10th April), after being closed following a major fire at the Assembly Rooms on the evening of Friday 14th March.
The fire caused extensive damage and left the site structurally unsound meaning Full Street was closed to ensure public safety. Read our article about the incident at the Assembly Rooms.
From Thursday one lane will reopen to traffic, with controls in place between the hours 7.00am and 7.00pm so that vital repair work to the Assembly Rooms car park to continue.
To allow repairs to progress as quickly as possible, Full Street will be closed to traffic and pedestrians on Sunday 13th April, Sunday 20th April and Sunday 27th April.
Councillor Ranjit Banwait, Cabinet Member for Streetpride and Neighbourhoods said:
“Teams from across the Council have done an amazing job, reacting quickly to make the building safe and are now working tirelessly to get the site back open.
The reopening of Full Street will ensure we Keep Derby moving whilst we press ahead with work to reopen the venue. I’d like to thank the people of Derby for their on-going support and patience whilst we recover from one of our city’s biggest incidents in recent years.”
