Updated at 11.30am on Monday 17th March:
Today we can confirm that the damage caused by the major fire in the plant room on the roof of the Assembly Rooms car park on Friday evening (14th March), is extensive. At present, the site is structurally unsound making any work to assess the total damage a high risk and therefore time consuming.
To ensure safety of the public the car park and Full Street will remain closed until further notice.
Other car parks in the area include Chapel Street car park and Darwin Place car park - more information can be found on the car parks page.
All of the services that supply the Assembly Rooms were in the plant room and have been totally destroyed. The plant room will therefore have to be demolished before being replaced and this will take a considerable amount of time. The Assembly Rooms will be closed for at least eight weeks while initial works are undertaken and further updates on when the venue will re-open will be given in due course.
