The 2013 Baby of the Year competition, held at Derby's Eagle Market, saw 285 babies and children putting on their best smiles for the camera. Over 1,200 votes were taken, with city residents voting for their favourites from each of the three age categories...
Overall winner was Daisy Shaw (0-9 months category) who was presented with a cheque for £1,000, a trophy and a framed print by Councillor Mick Barker, who is Vice President of the National Association of British Markets Authorities (NABMA), and Councillor Dave Roberts. Commenting on the successful event, Cllr Barker said:
"Derby's Markets are the foundations of the city's retail sector so I'm delighted that this family orientated event generated such interest and a very worthy winner in little Daisy!"
Baby of the Year winner Daisy's mum, Chelsey Shaw of Mackworth, said she would be putting the money into a bank account until her daughter was older and thanked everyone who came out to vote for her 'little Princess'.
Runners up, Poppy Williamson (0 to 9 months) Kaleb Wheldon (10 to 18 months) and Ethan Brown (19 to 36 months) were also presented with framed pictures.
Organiser Carol Jordan, Director or Bellenino Ltd Photography, said:
"The event was a tremendous success, despite the inclement weather, for both for the residents of Derby and their children and the Eagle Market itself. We also raised £132.50 for the charity Wish Upon A Star, as we donated 50p from each entrant to the cause. We will be back-bigger and better-in 2014!"
Markets are held every third Thursday in each month throughout the year on the Market Place in Derby. To apply for a market stall or enquire about current availability telephone 01332 287362.
