We protect consumers from receiving a short weight or measure of goods they buy.
We do this by:
- regularly inspecting businesses to test all forms of weighing and measuring equipment in trade use. This includes petrol pumps, shop scales, weighbridges and intoxicating liquor measuring equipment
- carrying out reference tests on goods at packing depots to ensure the correct quantities are packaged
- offering advice to businesses on all legal aspects of weights and measures - for more information see our Weights and Measures advice for businesses
- responding to complaints from consumers and businesses who suspect they may have received the incorrect weight or measure.
