One-off grant for self-employed drivers
Support for licensed hackney carriage and private minicab drivers was initially available as a one-off coronavirus (COVID-19) support grant of £250 available to eligible self-employed drivers impacted by the November 2020 lockdown. Derby City Council is launching a second round of £250 COVID-19 support grants to the city’s licensed hackney carriage and private minicab drivers for the current lockdown that began on 5 January 2021.
The strict window for applications is from 26 April 2021 to 5pm on 4 May 2021. After this, no new applications will be accepted and we do not expect to re-open the scheme.
Drivers will need to provide details of their taxi driver licence and vehicle permits (both must be with Derby City Council), amongst other supporting information.
Eligible self-employed drivers who have already received the ‘one-off’ grant from the November lockdown, or earlier in January will now be automatically processed for a second grant and will receive an email from the Council in the coming days to confirm the payment is due. Please do not submit another application if you have already applied previously as we will automatically consider you for the additional support.
Those drivers who have not claimed for support previously are invited to apply for the one-off support grant which draws on funds from the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme. These Drivers will be considered for the two £250 one off grant payments from the single new application that is submitted.
We are closed to new applications as of 5 pm 4 May 2021
