Check out the latest information and advice on coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Council, together with Community Action Derby, Derby Homes, the University of Derby and linking into Derby COVID-19 Mutual Aid Facebook group have created the Derby COVID Community Response Hub to to coordinate help and support for people who live alone or who are self-isolating with partners or relatives during this national crisis.
Through the hub, we can assist anyone in the community who is vulnerable or self-isolating, including those who fall into the Government’s ‘vulnerable’ Shield and Protect category. We’re prioritising those with no family, friends or neighbours who can help them. See the list below for those who can receive assistance.
Those who need support can call Derby Direct on 01332 640000. Text service for the deaf community:0777 4333412. Please remember this offer of support is for our most vulnerable residents.
The line will open between 9.00am and 6.00pm, every day. There’s also a dedicated email: Covid Support that can be contacted.
One aim of the group is to match up potential volunteers with those people most affected by the current crisis, so if you know of anyone in need where you live then get in touch and we’ll direct you to someone who needs your help.
The group want to encourage potential volunteers to be good neighbours and focus on people who need support, however big or small, in their immediate local neighbourhood. This includes those who may need help with shopping, prescriptions and other small tasks and will reduce the need for potential volunteers to travel to other areas of the city reducing the possible spread of infection. If you can help out in your immediate local neighbourhood please do!
You could use this as an opportunity to get to know that person you only wave at occasionally and if there is a silver lining to the current situation then perhaps it can be the creation of tighter-knit, friendly communities that look out for each other.
There's also some really useful national guidance on how to offer help safely which provides information on how to stay safe when providing or receiving support which may be of interest.
A number of people have asked who can access support, and what the hub can do for them, so we’ve put together a quick list to help;
Things that the hub can help with includes:
