A national Government decision has now been taken to close schools from after school on Friday 20th March 2020.
Whilst schools are closing to the general population they being asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children - children who are vulnerable and children whose parents are critical to the COVID-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home.
The list of people considered Key Workers can be seen here.
The Department for Education has set up a school helpline to answer questions from staff, parents and young people about coronavirus issues related to education.

In order to support the impact on our local providers who provide transport for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, we have taken the decision to honour all payments for contracted taxi services for a period of up to three months up to the end of June 2020.
In line with national approaches to similar matters, payments will be made at 90% of the contract amount which also helps reflect adjustments in relation to operating costs where schools are closed and journeys to and from schools have been suspended.
This should help to alleviate some of the many problems that you as businesses will be encountering at this difficult time, and allow you to continue to pay staff. We also hope that you will be flexible in helping the Council at this critical period by supporting other service areas across the Council, should taxi provision be required whilst schools are closed.
Our children centres, youth centres and Darley Barn are now closed until further notice.
