Check out the latest information and advice on coronavirus (COVID-19).
We have worked with our schools to support the re-opening of some classes on Monday 1st June 2020. In primary schools, reception class, Year 1 and Year 6, pupils are eligible to return to school in addition to children of key workers and those in vulnerable groups. In secondary schools, Year 10 and 12 pupils may return plus the other two groups of pupils.
Because of social distancing guidelines it will not be possible for some schools to admit all of the pupils who are eligible. Schools may have to prioritise the pupils they admit from 1st June and will need to admit children of key workers and children from vulnerable groups before any others.
We will continue to support schools in planning to re-open classrooms and to ensure that all decisions are based on the safety of children and young people.
The Department for Education has set up a school helpline to answer questions from staff, parents and young people about coronavirus issues related to education.
Telephone: 0800 046 8687
Opening hours: 8am to 6pm from Monday to Friday
In order to support the impact on our local providers who provide transport for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, we have taken the decision to honour all payments for contracted taxi services for a period of up to three months up until the end of June 2020.
In line with national approaches to similar matters, payments will be made at 90% of the contract amount which also helps reflect adjustments in relation to operating costs where schools are closed and journeys to and from schools have been suspended.
This should help to alleviate some of the problems that you as businesses will be encountering at this difficult time, and allow you to continue to pay staff. We also hope that you will be flexible in helping the Council at this critical period by supporting other service areas across the Council, should taxi provision be required whilst schools are closed.
Our children centres, youth centres and Darley Barn are now closed until further notice.
As from 18th March 2020, Derby Adult Learning Service is now closed to all learners until further notice. All exams, including GCSEs have been postponed.
Learners on accredited courses, including GCSEs are being supported to work remotely from home by our tutors using our interactive learning platform, DerbyLearn. Learners are encouraged to contact their tutors on DerbyLearn or using their email address if they have any queries about their learning.
