Why are we consulting?

Derby City Council has received an application for a Small Waste Incineration Plant (SWIP) which is proposed to be operated for a period of up to 12 months by Envirofusion Ltd.  If approved, the plant will operate at the company’s site at Unit 7, Northedge Business Park, Alfreton Rd, Derby.

The application is made under the provisions of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 (as amended) and the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED, 2010/75/EU)

It is proposed to utilise a non-hazardous refuse derived fuel (RDF). The plant, which is a demonstration facility, will have a capacity to burn up to a maximum of 2.75 tonnes per of RDF per hour.  The process will operate at a very high temperature, following which the flue gases are cooled and cleaned via an air pollution control filter and removal of acid gases.

Emissions, which will be continuously monitored, will be from a 20m high chimney attached to the building housing the plant.

There will be no point source emissions to land, groundwater or surface water (other than clean surface water run-off and clean roof water from the building).
