Why are we consulting?

Under the Gambling Act 2005, the Council as the Licensing Authority, has a legal duty to review, revise and carry out a public consultation on the proposed policy. The policy remains in force for the next 3 years.

The Statement outlines how the Council deals with applications, enforces the legislation and how decisions are made in accordance with the three licensing objectives as stipulated in the Gambling Act 2005. The licensing objectives are:

(a) Preventing gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, being associated with crime and disorder or being used to support crime,
(b) ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way, and
(c) protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.

The Derby City Council Gambling Statement of Principles review was last undertaken in 2015, the Statement is being reviewed again now to make sure the policy is current and relevant.

Existing licence holders, industry trade representatives, residents and businesses in Derby and people who work here, support agencies for those experiencing gambling issues, and any other interested party.
