Councillor Matthew Holmes has served as a local councillor since 2008, initially for Chellaston Ward before being elected to represent Mickleover in 2016.
Councillor Holmes was previously the Cabinet Member for Planning and Environment from 2010 to 2012, Deputy Leader of the Council in 2011/12 and served as Leader of the Opposition from 2016 until 2018. During this time, he was a member of the Executive Scrutiny Board and has also served as a long-standing member of the Planning Control Committee.
Aside from his time as a councillor, Matthew has a wealth of varied experience to bring to his Cabinet role that includes a former career in the music industry and present work that spans specialist Network and IT support within the NHS, as well as creative consultancy to the leisure industry.
Councillor Holmes became Deputy Leader of the Council at the Annual General Meeting on 23 May 2018.
