TDP of Wirksworth makes and supplies products made from recycled plastic for various industries, including landscaping, construction and outdoor furniture. TDP got in touch with the D2 Energy Efficiency team as the company was interested in replacing a 30 year old, floor mounted space heater that was becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and was inefficient and no longer fit for purpose.
A survey by a D2EE Project Officer confirmed that replacing the space heater with a more efficient model would bring enough energy saving to qualify for a D2EE grant. To save additional energy, the Officer also recommended reducing the amount of cooling in the server room and upgrading lighting in the office to LED panels.
Following a successful grant application, TDP Limited received a grant of £1,660 towards replacing the space heater with a 91% efficient heater which will save 5,072 kWh and £137 of gas annually. As the new heater is wall-mounted it also gave the company the opportunity to improve work-flow in the factory and make better use of the space.
Managing Director Rob Barlow was very happy with the support received from the D2EE team:
It was very easy to work with the team, response time was very good and everyone was helpful. Every stage of the application was explained in full, from identifying where we could improve our heating and also other areas, and help was provided when completing the forms. Once the work was undertaken it was a quick and easy process to claim the grant. During the process we discovered that another one of our heaters was unsafe. Now we have replaced the heaters savings are being made in our heating bills.”
