Package 1: Darley Abbey to The Silk Mill

Works commenced in earnest in October 2015, and started with the excavation of a number of archaeological trenches upstream of St. Mary’s Bridge. The archaeological investigation was followed by demolition, site preparation and construction carried out from December 2015 to present day.

Work on site is at an advanced stage with Package 1 programmed for completion during 2019. The mixture of flood alleviation measures; sheet piles, cladded & glazed top walls and the occasional bund have been designed to be as sympathetic as possible for the urban to green space to industrial landscape, located within the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site buffer zone, Scheduled Monuments and conservation areas.
