Disabled People’s Parking Bay outside your home
Ever been frustrated when you can't park your car outside your house or when someone parks across the dropped kerb to your drive and you can't get up or down the drive?
We can help with both these problems. We have a scheme where we can provide a marked out disabled people's bay outside your home, if you are a blue badge holder and do not have any off street parking. We can also help with road markings across the dropped kerb to your drive to stop other drivers parking there. These are called protective entrance markings.
These types of disabled people's parking bays or markings are advisory only and so not enforceable as they do not have a traffic order attached to them. But, but they are proven to deter non-blue badge holders from parking in them.
If you are successful in getting a marked out disabled people's bay, then it's important to stress, that this will not be for your exclusive use, it can be used by any other blue badge holder who wants to park there.
You have to meet certain criteria for the parking bay, but it's worth checking to see if you can get one...
On-street disabled people's parking bay
You can apply for an on-street disabled people's parking bay only if you meet these conditions…
If you are, a passenger aged 18 or above, one of our Adult Social Care Team members will contact you to discuss your exceptional circumstances.
If you have a disabled child under 18, one of our Children's Social Care Team members will contact you to discuss your exceptional circumstances.
What happens after I've applied?
If you are a disabled driver, then a member of our Traffic and Transportation team will check the difficulties you are having with parking.
If you are a disabled passenger with exceptional circumstances, and you cannot be dropped off or picked up outside your home, even with double parking, our Traffic and Transportation Team will look at the recommendations from either the Adult Social Care Team or Children’s Social Care Team. They will then check the difficulties you are having with parking. We have checked with the Police and double parking is acceptable if picking up or dropping off a disabled person.
Not happy with our decision?
If your application is unsuccessful and you want to appeal please contact Traffic and Transportation Team. We have an Expert Panel led by our Lead on Equality and Diversity who will look at all the facts of your application and the decision making process.
