Infectious diseases - investigation

A communicable disease or infectious disease is caused by microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi or protozoa. People can become infected through:

  • eating contaminated food
  • drinking contaminated water
  • breathing contaminated air
  • contact with an infected person
  • contact with contaminated surfaces
  • contact with animals
  • some leisure activities such as swimming in the sea/lakes
  • workplace environments.

We monitor the control and prevention of cases and outbreaks of infectious disease. All cases are investigated to identify the cause and reduce the spread of infection.

We also give advice on how to prevent the spread of disease within the home.

If you have any queries relating to infectious disease or food poisoning, you can contact us.
