Building new homes
We have a housing development and acquisition programme in partnership with Derby Homes.
This provides much needed new Council housing for households in housing need and allows the Council to directly develop new affordable homes across the city. These include the purchase of large four and five bedroom properties to address overcrowding, and properties to be used as temporary accommodation for households facing homelessness.
We also work in partnership with registered housing providers to increase the availability of new homes on smaller sites as well as on large scale developments.
To secure new affordable homes, either affordable rent or low cost home ownership, within larger sites across the city, the Council works in partnership with the large scale residential developers and registered housing providers. This is on sites such as:
- Hackwood Farm, Mickleover – this cross-border development is being constructed by Miller Homes and will deliver up to 370 new homes, alongside a new district centre and primary school.
- Kingsway – this residential scheme is now in Phase 2 and is being constructed by Kier. There will be further phases coming forward on this site in the future.
- Mansfield Road at Breadsall Hilltop – this residential scheme by Redrow will deliver up to 230 new homes for sale, affordable rent and low cost ownership.
The Council also works closely with smaller developers to purchase small residential sites which will provide additional affordable homes and this has been successful on a number of sites across the city. The next site to come forward will be 14 apartments in Normanton which will be available for affordable rent once complete in Spring 2019.
