Building new homes

We have a house building and purchase programme in partnership with Derby Homes. This provides much needed new council housing for households in housing need. We also work in partnership with Housing Associations to increase the availability of new homes.

We also work in partnership with registered housing providers to increase the availability of new homes.

Planning permission is currently being sought on two sites in Derby:

  • Chaddesden – this will provide 11 new homes for affordable rent, including properties adapted for people with specific needs.
  • Britannia Court, Duke Street – this vacant council owned site will provide 26 two bedroom apartments.

The Council is also working in partnership with large scale residential developers and registered housing providers to secure new homes for Derby residents within developments in the city including:

  • Hackwood Farm, Mickleover – this cross-border development is being constructed by Miller Homes and will deliver up to 370 new homes, alongside a new district centre and primary school.
  • Kingsway – this residential scheme is now in Phase 2 and is being constructed by Kier. It will include seven homes for affordable home ownership and a further 17 to be offered at affordable rent.

The Council also works closely with smaller developers to purchase small residential sites which will provide additional affordable homes.

The Council recently unveiled a brand new Extra Care development overlooking the River Derwent. This has already received acclaim from the Derby Civic Society, who described the development as “a significant improvement to the built environment of the city of Derby.”

Parkland View has a total of 82 two bedroom apartments, as well as communal facilities including a restaurant, therapy room and on-site shop.
