Advice for young people

Where can young people in Derby get careers information and advice?

From September 2012, schools are legally responsible for providing careers guidance for their students. Therefore, if you are still at school you should ask them for information or advice about jobs and courses.

What kind of help can I get at Space@connexions?

The centre at 8, Curzon St, Derby DE1 1LL offers a range of services including:

  • careers advice
  • benefits information
  • sexual health services.

You can drop in to use our computers for writing a CV or careers related activities or speak to an adviser on:

  • Monday to Thursday, 9.30am to 5.00pm
  • Friday, 9.30am to 4.30pm.

How can young people contact the National Careers Service?

If you are a young person, you can speak to an adviser from the National Careers Service by telephone: 0800 100 900. You can also get more information on the National Careers Service website.

Advice for adults

What does careers@derby offer to adults?

Impartial, face to face advice and guidance is also available to adults over 19 with the qualified advisers from the careers@derby team, who can help you:

  • choose the right job, career or learning course
  • identify your work skills
  • compile a successful CV, complete application forms and prepare for interviews
  • use ICT facilities to apply for jobs and courses
  • find out about qualifications and jobs, voluntary work and other support to get into work and learning.

How do adults contact careers@derby?

Face to face appointments can be made at our Curzon Street centre by emailing, calling in to the The Space@Connexions, or ringing 01332 643912.

Careers@derby is part of the Derby Adult Learning Services who also provide a range of courses in learning centres throughout Derby.

Do I need an appointment?

No you don't need an appointment. You can use the facilities atThe Space@Connexions during weekdays between 9.30am and 4.30pm. A drop-in advice service is available on certain days. This varies so check first if you are making a special journey.
