Work is underway to transform the big blue building to a new contemporary colour scheme of gunmetal grey and red

Over the past few weeks you may have noticed a collection of cherry pickers around Cardinal Square, the iconic office development fronting Derby’s Ring Road and the A52.

Now, work is underway to transform the big blue building to a new contemporary colour scheme of gunmetal grey and red.

The makeover is part of a major refurbishment programme being carried out by owners Nurton Developments.

One of the most visible office developments in Derby, Cardinal Square has a net internal floor area of 113,000ft2.

The building is set around a central quadrant and comprises of four inter-connecting blocks, each arranged on four and five floors, available on a floor-by-floor or single office basis.

The first phase of refurbishments on the ground floor of the building’s West Point were completed earlier this year to create 4,500ft2 of hi-spec serviced office space. The new Cardinal Business Centre offers flexible leases and can accommodate any configuration, from two workstations up to an open plan suite, all with flexible lease terms.

Following the successful letting of Phase 1, a further 4,500 ft2 of serviced office accommodation has been created on the ground floor North. 1,000 ft2 has been pre-let and the remaining space is furnished and available for occupation.

Occupancy levels have steadily increased with local, regional and national businesses taking advantage of the scheme’s central location, quality accommodation and hi-tech services and facilities.

The building continues to attract high profile names across a variety of sectors and tenants now include leading outsourced healthcare service providers Totally PLC, water and wastewater solution providers MWH Treatment, NHS Property services, Freeths solicitors and George’s Tradition.

Commenting on the building’s makeover, David Dyas, asset manager at Cardinal Square, said:

It was a big decision to change Cardinal Square’s iconic blue and orange colour scheme, but we felt the building’s external image needed to reflect the sleek new internal renovations. This transformation will refresh Cardinal Square and bring a more contemporary feel to the building. We have a first-class business community at Cardinal Square and Cardinal Business Centre and we’re looking forward to welcoming more new clients to take advantage of our fantastic facilities.
