Council opens consultation on Housing Strategy for 2020-2029
Published: 18 December 2019
Derby City Council is consulting on its draft new Housing Strategy, as its current strategy approaches completion. If approved, this strategy will provide the framework for housing and related services for the 2020s.
The new strategy sets out a number of key priorities to address housing need in all occupancies, and the delivery of accessible good quality, and well managed housing in the city. It sets out a detailed ‘Action Plan’ to deliver the support for these priorities which have been identified as follows:
- Best Use of Stock: working to ensure that Derby is getting the most out of the homes that already exist for individuals and families
- Housing Quality and Standards: providing housing which is well-designed, well-managed, sustainable, safe and warm
- Vulnerable People: providing suitable accommodation for vulnerable groups, and, where necessary, linking this to specialist support
- Housing Development and Regeneration: supplying a range of new housing that meets need and contributes to urban renewal in Derby
The Council is now welcoming thoughts and contributions from the public to help inform its next steps. You can take part by reading the Derby City Council Draft Housing Strategy 2020-2029 and by completing the online survey.
Councillor Roy Webb, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Housing, said:
Ensuring that the citizens of Derby have access to good quality housing is essential to protecting their overall health and wellbeing. While housing is an issue for local authorities nationally, in Derby we will always strive to improve quality of life for the families and individuals who live here – an aim which is at the forefront of our housing plans. We encourage Derby residents to contribute to the consultation and give their feedback to help steer our plans for housing in the decade ahead.
The survey is open to all, particularly anyone who lives, works or studies in Derby and will close on 2 March 2020. Dependent on approval, the finalised plan is scheduled to be released in the spring.
