The new strategy has been informed by a full review of the existing pattern of homelessness in the city and existing service provision.

Derby City Council is consulting on its draft new Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy, as its current strategy approaches completion.

The new strategy has been informed by a full review of the existing pattern of homelessness in the city and existing service provision.  It includes a rough sleeping strategy and action plan. The review also considered relevant information from a wide range of services including Public Health, Social Care, Voluntary and Community organisations and housing partners.

The strategy has been created to respond to three main priorities identified in the review as the best ways of supporting vulnerable people who may become or are homeless: prevention, support and supply.

The strategy lays out details on how these priorities will be achieved or met and key actions.

  • Preventing homelessness – Steps the Council and its partners can take to help prevent individuals or households from becoming homeless
  • Supplying sufficient accommodation – Work that is being completed to ensure there is sufficient suitable and affordable temporary and permanent accommodation for homeless households both in social housing and private housing
  • Supporting homeless households or those at risk of becoming homeless – The various methods and services to support and engage with those who are homeless or potentially homeless

The Council are now welcoming thoughts and contributions from the public on its strategy to help inform its next steps.

You can take part by reading the draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy and Action Plans and by completing the online survey.

The survey is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in Derby. The current draft strategy and the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Action Plans are available to access on the Council website.
