Today, Thursday 17 October saw the launch of a programme of deep cleans to give smaller district centres in the city a much wanted facelift.

The event this morning in the Cavendish area of Normanton was the first of more than 20 similar events planned for the city.

An energetic team of Councillors, Derby College students, Council colleagues and volunteers stepped out into the sunshine to get stuck in with activities including

  • Painting more than 50 bollards
  • Painting street furniture like benches
  • Replacing worn out litter bins
  • Clearing road channels and gullies
  • Footway sweeping
  • Removal of weed and vegetation growth
  • Installation of planters and flowering displays

The events follow on from the success of the city centre deep clean events that took place in 2018.

Councillor Jonathan Smale, Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Streetpride commented:

These events are a priority for the Council and deliver on our commitments in the Council Plan. We know that our residents really care about how their neighbourhoods look. We’ve committed to delivering these events to boost pride in these valuable local centres of our city. Today’s event has been a real team effort, well done everyone!
