Derby City Council can reveal that there will be two soft play areas at the new Moorways Sports Village and Water park when it opens in spring 2022.

A smaller area will be installed within the café area and will include two levels with a ball pool, slides, agility set, soft play shapes and more.

The larger soft play installation will be housed within the multi-use area and will feature its own Ninja Run for friends to challenge one another. Other features include:

  • 4 Lane Astra Slide
  • Games Room
  • Sensory equipment
  • Toddler/Baby area

Councillor Ross McCristal, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said:

“I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to expand the offer of a soft play area beyond the planned café area. We want Moorways to provide a fantastic experience for entire families. So, whether you want to swim or not, Moorways will provide a great day out!”

The centrepiece 50m pool at Moorways includes innovative technology using moving floors and booms. These can create three separate 25m pools and cater for a range of sessions by raising or lowering the floor to create different depths.

Once completed the facility will have a spacious, modern gym fitted out with the latest equipment including three health and fitness studios, as well as sauna and steam rooms. A cafe will offer a range of refreshments and there will be soft play areas for young children.

Since the project began it was anticipated that Moorways Sports Village would be run by a partner operator and in February 2021, Derby City Council announced the decision to procure a leisure operator to run the Moorways Sports Village. The Council believes that this move will bring added value to Derby’s health, wellbeing and leisure offer, whilst delivering value for money for the city.
Moorways Sports Village is due to open to customers in spring 2022 and attract visitors from across the region.
