Derby City Council is set to support the city’s licensed hackney carriage and private minicab drivers by re-opening applications for a one-off Covid-19 support £250 grant for eligible self-employed drivers utilising funding from its Additional Restrictions Grant scheme.

The scheme was opened in December but received a smaller number of applications than anticipated and so it has been agreed to open the scheme again with a new dedicated application form.

Drivers will be asked to provide details of their Taxi driver licence and vehicle permits, which both must be with Derby City Council, amongst other supporting information.

Those drivers who did previously apply and receive the grant are not eligible to apply for a second time.

Councillor Nicola Roulstone, Cabinet Member for Finance said:

I am pleased we are able to support our licensed hackney carriage and private minicab drivers. In addition to the 80% self-employed income support scheme provided by the government we feel it’s important to recognise the important role many have played in supporting the city’s infrastructure throughout the covid response.
