Even before starting school, children should start to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to become responsible road users. Research shows that attitudes towards road safety are formed when children are very young making this an ideal time to start teaching road safety.
Children should start to learn about the language of the road, becoming familiar with words and their meanings. They should also start learning about right and wrong behaviour - for example; holding hands, safe places to play, child seats and seatbelts, crossing the road and the importance of stop, look and listen. To help you make a start we have put together some materials for you to use.
