D2N2 LEP back new Assembly Rooms with £4.5m

D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership has signed off on £4.5 million of funding to help deliver Derby’s new Assembly Rooms.

The funding will contribute to the £24 million investment approved by Derby City Council. As the Council’s number one city centre priority the new Assembly Rooms will provide Derby with a contemporary large-scale entertainment and conference venue in the city centre.

It is expected the new venue will act as a catalyst for further investment and help rejuvenate Derby into a thriving, competitive city.

Securing this funding is another step forward to deliver this project. The D2N2 LEP has been a fantastic partner and with their support we can get the new Assembly Rooms open to the public and contributing to the city.

D2N2 has approved £4.48 million of funding towards the redevelopment of the historic assembly rooms building as part of the wider redevelopment of Derby City Centre. A new assembly rooms in the heart of Derby, along with the re-developed Silk Mills once opened will attract new visitors and investment into the City which in turn will support more jobs and private investment into the economy.

Earlier this month the project received planning consent – an important milestone to secure funding. The building will be brought back into use, with a new look and feel to what has gone before.

Throughout the design process customer experience has been at the heart of plans. Customer areas from entering the venue through to the auditorium will be revamped with new interiors. Glazing will be installed on the Market Place frontage creating a modern appearance and providing additional internal space. The exterior of the adjoining car park will also be re-clad.
