Road improvements planned for areas of Derby

A programme to apply micro-asphalt to 21 streets in Derby is set to begin
A programme to apply micro-asphalt to 21 streets in Derby is set to begin on the week commencing Monday 16th September. Approximately 33,000sqm will be treated with many of the locations having been prioritised by local neighbourhood boards.
Micro asphalt is required to seal the road surface against possible water and frost damage and to reduce the likelihood of any/further potholes developing. The treatment will also restore skid resistance to improve road safety and can extend the life of a road by up to ten years.

The project will span over three weeks, and will cost approximately £260,000, which will be funded from the Cabinet approved Highway and Transport Work Programme for 2019-20.
The roads being treated are:

- Littleover Lane
- Bideford Drive
- Stenson Avenue
- Grenfell Avenue
- Kendon Avenue
- Caxton Street
- Browning Street
- Blackmore Street
- Thorness Close
- Shalfleet Drive
- Howth Close
- Foyle Avenue
- Kevin Close
- Brookfield Avenue
- Barnard Road
- Chapter Close
- Buttermere Drive
- Moorway Lane
- Village Street
- Wakimi Crescent
- Simcoe Leys
The work will be completed on behalf of DCC by Kier Highway Services with the work being restricted to either 9.30am – 3.30pm or 8am – 5pm, dependant on the location. Most work will be completed during the week, with some streets programmed for the weekend.
Affected residents will be notified by the Council with an additional notification the day before the planned work is due to start by the Kier team. It is especially important to ensure all vehicles are moved off the road when treatment starts, as one parked car could delay the whole street being completed effectively. Traffic management measures will be in place where appropriate in the form of stop/go boards and road closures. Road markings will be replaced soon after.
Micro asphalt treatment is subject to good weather and so particularly poor conditions may disrupt the programme as outlined but we will ensure residents are kept up to date.

Update 18 October 2019
The programme is currently one week behind schedule due to heavy rain. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this delay. All affected residents and businesses will be notified at least 24 hours in advance of the work starting to confirm the dates of the work and to make sure all vehicles are removed from the street. This guarantees that the Micro Asphalt can be laid without obstruction and ensures the safety of our workers as well as the public.
All ironwork will be lifted to the new surface level of the carriageway before the end of the calendar year to allow for the surface of the Micro Asphalt to settle.
