Flood resilience fund for businesses

Derby City Council will be providing financial support for businesses affected by the River Derwent flooding over the weekend.

Businesses across the city will be able to get support from a grant of up to £300 to help with damages that may have occurred due to flood water entering their premises.

Friday evening saw the River Derwent reach its highest level recorded at 3.3m, leaving areas of the city in low level water and in some cases a loss of power for a short period.

Richard Antcliff, Director of Public Protection and Streetpride, said:

The new Our City, Our River flood defences in the north of the city around Chester Green and Darley Park have meant that over 1,140 properties and businesses in the flood zone have been protected, however a small number elsewhere in the city have been affected by the rising river levels.

Derby City Council will be supporting affected businesses in the city with the help of a flood resilient fund to help cover any damage caused to heating and lighting by flood water in commercial properties, as well as initial clean up costs. Teams from across the Council are working with affected premises to ensure businesses can get back up and running quickly.
