Derby City Council is set to create a sports village at Moorways in Derby

Derby City Council is set to create a sports village at Moorways in Derby.

The existing stadium and athletics track will be complemented by the delivery of the new pool and water park to create Moorways Sports Village. It’s anticipated that the sports village will become a popular destination, attracting visitors from across the City and further afield.

Cllr Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said:

Moorways Sports Village will be a real destination for the City. The athletics stadium combined with the new 50m pool and waterpark will provide attractive, healthy and fun opportunities.

A wide range of facilities will be available on the site including the indoor water park, 50m pool, extensive health and fitness experience, soft play, athletics stadium and track along with a number of sport pitches.

It’s expected that having a wide range of activities in one place will make Moorways Sports Village an attractive destination for residents and visitors. In particular the water park is expected to be a popular attraction. It will feature two four storey flumes along with England’s first wave generating Wow ball and Wave rider slide. For younger visitors there will also be an indoor water playground and beach area.

The 50m pool will have the flexibility to be divided into three separate 25m pools. A learner pool will complement the main 50m pool and can be used for a variety of lessons and sessions.

Site works are expected to start before the end of November ahead of the full construction work beginning.

Derby City Council has approved £42 million in funding for the project that is expected to be completed in late 2021.
