City residents encouraged to manage Council services online

Derby residents are encouraged to sign up to a new-look service which makes it quick and easy to manage a variety of Council services online.
From telling us about something that needs cleaning up in their neighbourhood, to reporting a missed bin, residents can manage and track a range of services by signing up to myAccount.
An additional 12,200 residents have registered since its relaunch in February – meaning there are now almost 90,000 registered myAccounts in total.
And two lucky myAccount customers – including Ibrar Hussain (pictured) – bagged themselves an iPad each, worth £300, after being selected as winners in our prize draw.
The online service has been revamped with new features and a new look, as part of the Council’s commitment to provide modern services which people can access anytime, anywhere and from any device.
Councillor Nicola Roulstone, Cabinet Member for Finance and Procurement, said:
We’re committed to modernising the way we do business with our residents and want to make things as quick and easy for people as possible. We know many residents want to do things online rather than visiting a Council office or waiting in a telephone queue – even more important now than ever as we all try to limit avoidable travel and contact. Our revamped myAccount means they can do more with us than ever before – and we’ll be adding extra features over the coming months. Anyone who may not have access to the internet at home can get online for free at one of the city’s libraries.
Registering takes a couple of minutes – once set up, people can:
- Tell us about something that needs cleaning up on a street, road or park
- Sign up for our garden waste service
- Request copies of birth, marriage or death certificates
- Tell us if their bin has been missed so we can re-arrange collection
- Manage Council Tax and benefits claims – a feature coming soon
Councillor Roulstone added:
Providing digital options to do business with us also eases pressure on our budgets and allows us to deliver better value for money to city residents. For example, the average face-to-face transaction costs £10 compared to just nine pence if we delivered that transaction digitally.
