Digger at roadworks

The next resurfacing project will be taking place on Lodge Lane, Spondon

In recent months, Derby City Council has completed a number of significant resurfacing schemes across the city as part of a huge £9 million investment. The next resurfacing project will be taking place on Lodge Lane, Spondon between the A52 exit slip and Sitwell Street.

Unlike other schemes, the work will take place during overnight closures to coincide with a larger Highways England resurfacing scheme on the A52 (between A5111 Raynesway and the M1 Junction 25) to reduce disruption.

Both of these schemes are separate from the ongoing A52 Wyvern transport improvements.

Resurfacing on Lodge Lane will take place between 8.00pm and 6.00am for five nights from Wednesday 19 August to Tuesday 25 August (not including weekends). The work will be completed by Thomas Bow Ltd, on behalf of the Council.

As Lodge Lane is a heavily used bus route, teams will install an additional layer called binder course to give the road extra strength.

We will have Traffic Marshals on site to help residents access their homes with minimum disruption. However, there may be times where access is not immediately possible so please be patient and follow the instructions of the Traffic Marshal to keep everyone safe. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times during the road closures.

A signed diversion will be in place during the work. You can see the diversion on our google map.

The Highways England project is due to begin on the eastbound carriage of the A52 from Monday 10 August and will be completed in three phases.

  • A52 eastbound closed Monday 10 August to Wednesday 2 September
  • A52 westbound closed Wednesday 2 September to Tuesday 15 September
  • A5111 northbound closed Wednesday 16 September to Tuesday 22 September

During each phase, the road will be closed each weeknight between 8.00pm and 6.00am (excluding bank holidays) and a signed diversion route in place.

Spondon Residents who would normally access Church Street using the A52 on-slip will be unable to, as the Highways England work includes resurfacing the slip roads. Residents will be able to use the A6005 and Willowcroft Road to access the area.

Residents can opt in to receive text alerts about changes to the Highways England planned closures by texting A52RWAY to 07860 057487. Messages will be charged at your standard network text message rate. To unsubscribe, please text A52RWAY STOP to the same number. Alternatively, residents can contact Highways England directly by emailing info@highwaysengland.co.uk (F.A.O East Midlands Asset Delivery), calling 0300 123 5000 or tweeting @HighwaysEMIDS.

Councillor Jonathan Smale, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Public Protection and Streetpride commented:

As a Council, our roads are the single biggest asset we own. We understand that roadworks can be frustrating, but I’m really pleased to see the difference that our £9 million investment is making to the city. I hope that nearby residents and the travelling public agree that the short term disruption from the work on Lodge Lane is worth it in the long term.
