Mill Hill Lane and Mount Street resurfacing to start next week

Normanton Road resurfacing is due to be completed three weeks ahead of schedule
Normanton Road resurfacing is due to be completed three weeks ahead of schedule. Work began in July on the scheme, which was expected to take nine weeks to complete. However, the excellent weather and support of local residents and businesses has meant that the scheme is ahead of schedule, paving the way (pun intended) for additional essential work to take place in the area.
Starting on Wednesday 26 August, Mill Hill Lane and Mount Street will be closed for two and a half weeks while the roads are resurfaced and road markings replaced. As these roads are both heavily used, additional layers called binder course and surface course will be added to give the road additional strength.
The work will be completed in two phases:
- Phase 1 – Mill Hill Lane (starting by the school entrance)
- Phase 2 – Mount Street
During the work, the roads will be closed with signed diversion routes in place. Residents are also able to view the closures and diversions on Google maps.
Residents will be able to access their homes and should follow the directions of Traffic Marshals on site to keep everyone safe. There may be times where vehicles can’t immediately gain access and we ask that everyone is patient and respectful of the staff who are working hard to improve the local area. Footways will be open at all times.
Bins will be collected as normal.
The work will be completed by Thomas Bow Ltd. who are working to Public Health England and Construction Industry Council guidance on social distancing and safety operations. However, there are certain parts of the work that can’t be completed with social distancing. The contractor has provided us with details of how they will work through these as safely as possible.

The benefit of this is that we can now go further and deliver additional benefits to the local area. We know that roadworks like these are disruptive and can be frustrating but the long term benefits of a new, safer road surface should far outweigh the short term disruption.
