Plans revealed for Market Hall roof

Derby Market Hall
Plans have been submitted by Derby City Council to restore Derby’s historic Market Hall.
Extensive restoration work is required to the roof and other parts of the building to make it safe and give it an extended life. The major plans are part of a two phase approach to bring new life to the Market Hall.
Phase one will restore the roof and the structure and a second phase will see a series of enhancements and changes that will rejuvenate the Market Hall. The new facility will be attractive, accessible, flexible and a cultural destination for businesses, customers and the public.

This investment in the Market Hall is vitally important for its future prosperity. Along with other major projects and refurbishments, included in a refreshed City Centre Masterplan and together with other areas of High Street regeneration, the Market Hall transformation will help our city centre to flourish and return to its vibrant best in the future.
As part of the phase two changes the Market Hall will become home to a more diverse range of retailers, with an emphasis on food and beverage. Key features will include a food court along with a flexible events space which is anticipated to contribute to Derby’s day and night time economy. The remaining space will also be available for the traditional market offer, and the existing traders are involved in the process of change.
The project is part of the City Centre Masterplan, which aims to create 4,000 jobs, lever £3.5bn of investment, and create 1900 new homes by 2030. Proposals also seek to revitalise the city centre and re-energise Derby’s day and night time economies in order to attract people into the city.
