Sporting Communities plan to refurbish the changing rooms at Normanton Park

Two community buildings in Normanton Park are under new management with plans to give them a new lease of life.

Sporting Communities Community Interest Company (CIC) has taken over the lease for Normanton Park Community Centre, off Warwick Avenue, which will be its new headquarters. It will also manage the currently decommissioned changing rooms and two adjacent sports courts.

The CIC now plans to refurbish the facilities and bring them back into use for the local community, and to source funding from partners in the private, voluntary and public sectors to get the changing rooms up and running again.

Ben Rigby, Director of Sporting Communities, said:

As an ethical community development company it is our privilege to be able to relocate our headquarters within a much-loved community facility and we look forward to working alongside the community of Normanton to help develop these resources and to also introduce services which meets the community’s needs.

Councillor Jerry Pearce, Derby City Council’s Cabinet Member for Streetpride and Public Spaces, said:

We are very pleased to be working with Sporting Communities and look forward to the benefits that they will bring to Normanton Park and its facilities. They have a lot to offer for the local community.

As a CIC, Sporting Communities is an ethical, not-for-profit organisation offering a range of services which provide opportunities to local communities through sport and recreation, creative activities, family support, mentoring, mediation and advocacy, and options for communities and schools to create a sustainable and realistic business approach. One of their first aims is to develop their award-winning approach in Play Work by establishing a National Centre of Excellence for Play work, Practice and Research.
