Last chance to have your say on budget proposals for people’s services

The consultation closes on 10 February
There’s just one week left for anyone living, working or studying in Derby to have their say on Derby City Council’s people’s services proposals before the consultation closes on Friday 10 February.
Like Councils across the country, Derby is facing the challenge of setting a balanced budget in the face of a ‘perfect storm’ of rising costs, abnormally high inflation rates and increasing demand. This means that we’re having to make unprecedented savings in a very short space of time.
However, through a mixture of additional Government funding for Social Care, management of demand, savings and an increase in Council Tax, the Council has proposed a balanced budget, with the focus on protecting the city’s most vulnerable people.
The situation facing adults and children’s social care is particularly severe, with demand for adults and children’s services increasing year on year. This means that in recent years a greater proportion of the Council’s budget has had to be targeted at core statutory services, especially social care.
Running alongside the main budget consultation which closed last week, the people’s services consultation asks for feedback on three areas:
- Reviewing the Council’s Early Help offer to focus on the most vulnerable children and families in need;
- Reviewing care packages for people living in the community to focus on the most vulnerable people;
- Reducing the capacity of the Occupational Therapy service by removing current vacancies.
