On Saturday 6 May, the country and commonwealth will mark a historic day as His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Camilla the Queen Consort are crowned in a solemn religious ceremony that has remained largely unchanged for almost 1000 years.

Millions of people across the country and the commonwealth are invited to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort over a weekend of special events.

From Saturday 6 to Monday 8 May 2023, events including Coronation Big Lunches, street parties, and The Big Help Out; a volunteering opportunity will bring communities together over the special bank holiday Coronation weekend.

On Sunday 7 May, the community are encouraged to celebrate the Coronation by organising Coronation Big Lunches in their communities. These events can take place on streets or in parks and open spaces in the city. If you want to host a street party, you’ll need to complete a short road closure request by Friday 7 April. Similarly, anyone hoping to host an event in a park or open space should reach out to the Space Hire team by mid-March.

Anyone hosting a street party or other celebration can add this to the official event map on the Coronation website.

The Council will shortly be releasing details of events taking place in the city centre over the coronation weekend.

HM Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire Mrs Elizabeth Fothergill CBE commented:

“The Coronation weekend will be such a thrilling tribute to His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty the Queen Consort. I, along with others are greatly looking forward to the weekend and seeing all the wonderful celebrations that will be taking place across Derby.”
