Bus Timetable and Operator Information

There are bus service to all areas of Derby and a large number of destinations in the surrounding area operated by several bus companies. These include:

Alternatively you can contact Traveline (contact details 0871 200 22 33, between 7.00am and 10.00pm, calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras if ringing from a mobile).

A selection of ARRIVA and trent barton tickets and other products including timetable leaflets and books are available from the information office at the Bus Station in Derby.

The information office is located centrally on the concourse and is open Monday to Saturday 8.00am to 6.00pm and Sundays and Bank holiday Mondays 10.00am to 5.00pm.

Can I catch a National Express Coach from Derby?

National Express Coach Services operate from the bus station in Derby. You can purchase your ticket from the Information Office at the bus station or contact National Express directly.

Train Information

There are direct rail services from Derby to a large number of destinations including London, Brimingham, Sheffield, Newcastle and Cardiff.

The following bus services operate from bays 12, 13 and 14 at the bus station in Derby and go into the train station forecourt:

From the train station to the bus station you can the following bus services pick up at the bus shelter on Railway Terrace adjacent to the Waterfall public house:

The journey time is approximately 3 - 4 minutes. You can also catch service Unibus 6 from the train station forecourt that will take you to the university main campus on Kedleston Road via the city centre.

Airport Information

The nearest airport is East Midlands Airport at Castle Donington. For travel information please contact the airport direct. You can plan your journey to and from the airport using the journey planner.

The Skylink bus service operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week from the city centre to East Midlands airport. This bus service also serves Loughborough Swan Street and Leicester St Margarets Bus Station.

You can also connect at East Midlands Parkway train station for journeys to and from Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Lincoln, Sheffield and London.

Derby Bus Station

The bus station is Located on Morledge, Derby. There are 24 bays for local bus services and five coach bays.  National Express and some holiday tour companies use the bus station; please check with the holiday coach company where you will be picked up and dropped off. Pick up and drop off bays are available under the bridge of the Riverside car park, this is for the use of intending bus or coach travellers. 

There is a Spar convenience store with café facilities inside the bus station as well as an information office, seating and public toilets including disabled facilities.

There are electronic and static information stands are situated throughout the concourse and at each bay and toilet facilities are available on site.

Bus stops, shelters and real time information displays 

Please contact us for information regarding:

  • new bus stop and shelter requests
  • problems with existing bus stops and shelters, for example a broken panel or dirty bus shelter
  • new bus stop access kerbs requests, allowing easier access onto the bus.

Anything relating to the timetable information or bus stop flags you will need to contact the bus company direct.

Service Changes and Disruption

The bus companies make changes to the services they operate and are required to give up to 56 days notice before a change becomes effective. They send the details of the changes to the Traffic Commissioners who are responsible for regulating the bus operators and for information to the Council.

Hospital bus services

There are a number of bus services that take patients and relatives to the Royal Derby Hospital and London Road Community Hospital:

  • The Royal Derby bus service is provided by the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and operates between the two sites, between the hours of 6.15am and 9.00pm Monday to Friday and 6.20am and 8.10pm on Saturday.

Park & Ride facilities in Derby

There are two park & ride services in Derby. They both operate Monday to Saturday, except on bank holidays. Please see service changes and disruptions for the latest information:

 Our park and ride bus services are:

  • Meteor Centre retail park, Mansfield Road – service D1 operates between 7.30am and 6.05pm Monday to Saturday. Please ensure you park in the allocated bays, fines are issued to cars parked in the wrong bays. The price paid is per car, not per person and up to seven people can travel in one car.
  • Pride Park, south car park adjacent to the football stadium – service 111 operates between 7.00am and 7.00pm Monday to Saturday. Please check for any home matches that may affect the service operating times. The price paid is per car, not per person and up to seven people can travel in one car.
