Joint Strategic Needs Assessment - a compassionate enquiry
Derby City Council’s Public Health team is reviewing its 0 - 25 Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services through a “compassionate enquiry” approach.
They aim to understand how well services work together, use local resources, and truly support children, young people and families. By listening empathetically through surveys and focus group, they’ll gather the views of four groups - young people with SEND, their parents, teachers and health/social care providers, in a number of areas:
- Types of need - felt needs, expressed needs, perceived needs
- Meeting needs earlier, how can we support earlier and differently
- What support is needed, and how will that improve outcomes for children
Their goal is to identify reasons for SEND in Derby and to explore options for meeting needs earlier and differently, by hearing from as many people as possible.
