Update at 7:10pm Friday 5 December 2025

Searches at a property on Vulcan Street have now been completed and the area has been declared safe.

Residents who were evacuated from the street and nearby roads can now return to their homes.

A scene remains in place at the house where the warrant was conducted and officers will remain outside that property overnight and there will be a continued police presence over the weekend.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all residents throughout the evacuation.

We are grateful for the continued support from voluntary agencies, businesses and members of the community who have been helping us respond to the needs of residents at this difficult time, providing food, toiletries and shelter.

We would like to specifically thank the people of Derby for their exceptional generosity and community spirit. The support provided to those affected by the evacuation, from volunteers and local businesses to friends and neighbours, has been outstanding.

The Pakistani Community Centre, Harrington Street, will be kept open this evening for any residents who require immediate support or assistance.

Moving forward, Derby City Council staff will be available starting 8am tomorrow (Saturday 6 December) at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Princes Street, Derby DE23 8NT to offer ongoing support.

We know this experience may have been upsetting and returning home can be emotional or stressful.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or need someone to talk to, support is available from the  Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service, which is open to everyone living in Derbyshire - young people and adults. It’s free and open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For help and support, call 111 and select option 2.

Update at 5:30pm Friday 5 December 2025

We’re continuing to work with our partners towards getting residents evacuated from the Vulcan Street area back in their homes as soon as possible. Derbyshire Constabulary is unable to give a time for this but we will provide an update as soon as possible. The situation will be reviewed at a further multi-agency meeting at 6pm.

Residents from the evacuated area who need accommodation for tonight should go to our assembly point at the Pakistani Community Centre, 103 Harrington Street, DE23 8PB, where we can support them.

If you have friends and family in the area who may not be aware of this offer, please contact them.

Our thanks goes out to voluntary agencies and members of the community who have rallied round to support residents with food and shelter at this time. We’re seeing real community spirit in action in our city.
