Works on Victoria Street, Albert Street and Corporation Street are entering the final stages, with all three being resurfaced in early 2025.

Works will begin on 20 January until 11 February and will take place between 8pm and 5am allowing businesses and bus services to operate as usual during the day.

Following the resurfacing, several new planters will be placed along the route, bringing a greener feel to the area.

Works have been ongoing in the area to deliver improvements to active travel and sustainable transport infrastructure, and make it easier to move between Derby’s two Business Improvement Districts, St Peter’s Quarter and Cathedral Quarter.

Improvements include wider paths, better cycleways and more cycle stands, while bus users will benefit from improved streetlighting around bus stops, giving passengers a safer, more comfortable place to wait.

The accompanying public realm improvements provide a more attractive route through the city, connecting two major regeneration projects - Becketwell and Derby Market Hall – and will complement the proposed improvements on Osnabruck Square.

Councillor Carmel Swan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Transport, and Sustainability, said:

It’s great to see another of our city centre schemes nearing completion. The works around Victoria and Albert Street have already given the area a much fresher look, and once complete visitors will be able to make full use of the improvements to get around the city quickly and sustainably.

“We have set ourselves ambitious climate change targets and to meet these we need to have the infrastructure in place that allows people to make the greener choice when it comes to getting around our city.

These works, funded by the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, are being delivered by Eurovia on behalf of Derby City Council.

Working in partnership, Nottingham City and Derby City Councils secured £161 million to invest in local transport infrastructure that will improve sustainable transport, support growth, and encourage more low carbon journeys.
