A large section of Nottingham Road, Chaddesden is to be resurfaced in the new year as part of an ongoing package of improvements.

Works are expected to begin on Monday 3 February, following the resurfacing of Derby Road, and will take up to eight weeks.

To minimise disruption, works will take place overnight with road closures in place from 10pm-6am Monday to Friday. The road will remain open on Saturday and Sunday nights where possible.

A signed diversion for through traffic will be in place along the A52. To maintain local access as much as possible, works will be phased with closures only covering a portion of the road:

  • Phase 1 – Chaddesden Park Road Junction (includes resurfacing of the junction) to the middle of the Cemetery
Phase 2 – Middle of the Cemetery to East of The Crescent
Phase 3 – East of The Crescent to East of Sunny Grove
Phase 4 – Middle of Sunny Grove to West of Cleveland Avenue
Phase 5 – West of Cleveland Avenue to East of Oregon Way
Phase 6 – West of Oregon Way to Raynesway/Acorn Way roundabout

The timing of these phases may be subject to change due to the weather, therefore interactive signage will be used to provide updates on progress and any closure dates. The Derby City Council website will also have more information.

Both Derby Road and Nottingham Road are undergoing improvements to deliver new infrastructure that makes active travel, such as walking and cycling, easier. This includes new cycle lanes and improved pedestrian crossings.

These works, delivered by Balfour Beatty, are part of Nottingham and Derby’s Transforming Cities programme, a wider package of works that is creating a more sustainable transport network for the city.

Councillor Carmel Swan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Transport and Sustainability, said:

We’re committed to delivering quality transport infrastructure that allows for easier sustainable travel. The resurfacing of Nottingham Road is the next step in this wider scheme that will deliver clear improvements along a key route between the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.

I’m aware that these works are taking place in the heart of a residential area and therefore will cause some disruption for residents, but please rest assured that we have done all we can to minimise disruption and will continue to keep you updated as the resurfacing progresses.
