Get ready to track down some serious fun this summer holiday. Arthur’s Here and There Railway is rolling into the historic Derby Market Hall to launch The Market Express.

The fun ride-on miniature railway will be free for families to experience, right in the heart of the city. Running across two weekends – Friday 21 August to Sunday 23 August, and Friday 28 August to Sunday 30 August, from 10am to 4pm daily – the event offers families a budget-friendly day out packed with interactive activities.

Located on the first floor of the Market Hall, The Market Express will provide a ride-on train experience designed for children and parents alike.

Alongside the railway, visitors can join in a collaborative ‘Doodle Train’ art activity and pick up free railway activity sheets, featuring puzzles, games, and a hand-illustrated colouring sheet depicting the train inside the Market Hall. There’s no need to pre-book – families can just turn up and enjoy the fun.

Arthur's Here and There Railway is a non-profit pop-up railway based in Belper. Owner Martin Paling said:

We’re so excited to bring Arthur’s Here and There Railway into such a historic venue. It’s magical seeing the joy on children’s faces as they climb aboard. We can't wait to welcome families for a unique ride inside the Market Hall.

Councillor Gurkiran Kaur, Derby City Council Cabinet Member for City Centre, Culture and Tourism, said:

Derby Market Hall has a fantastic programme of events this summer. It can be a challenge to find free things to do during the school holidays, so these fabulous railway-themed weekends will be a treat for families while also supporting local businesses.

We're delighted to host The Market Express and look forward to seeing the Market Hall buzzing with young conductors.

Information about all the events at Derby Market Hall can be found on the website.
