The monthly Farmers’ Market at Derby Market Hall is set to expand outside into Osnabruck Square this month.

Since its launch in January, the event has doubled in size, growing from an initial 22 stalls to 45 confirmed for the upcoming market on Sunday 29 March.

Organised in collaboration with Derby Uncovered, the markets are designed to bring the community together in the heart of the city. Shoppers can expect a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere filled with fresh seasonal produce, artisanal foods, and unique flavours that highlight the rich agricultural heritage of the region.

Visitors at the next event will be able to explore a massive variety of high-quality goods, including fresh butchery and cheesemongers, baked goods, herbs and spices, gourmet mushrooms, liqueurs, sauces and honey. The line-up also includes chocolates, coffee, flowers, leather goods and locally crafted gifts.

Inside the Market Hall, Harlequin Morris will provide a lively backdrop of traditional folk music and dance, while Osnabruck Square will host performances from the popular Rock Choir alongside local vocalist and guitarist Steve Steeples.

In addition to the visiting market stalls, shoppers are encouraged to visit the Market Hall’s permanent traders. The venue’s street food dining area, cafes, and bars also remain open throughout the event, offering the perfect space for a weekend meal or a coffee while browsing the local produce.

Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council and Cabinet Member for City Centre, Regeneration, Strategy and Policy, said:

We’re thrilled to see the Farmers’ Market going from strength to strength in such a short space of time.

The fact that the market has doubled in size since January is a testament to the appetite for local produce in our city. Expanding out into Osnabruck Square for the spring season allows us to welcome even more traders and shoppers, further cementing the Market Hall as a vibrant destination for the community.

David Turner of Derby Uncovered added:

Since we launched Derby Farmers’ Market, the response from both stallholders and the public has been incredible. In only a couple of months we’ve more than doubled the size of the market, which shows the huge appetite in Derby for high-quality local food, drink and produce.

Working collaboratively with the Derby Market Hall team and the Council has allowed the market to grow quickly and sustainably, and expanding into Osnabrück Square means we can welcome even more brilliant local traders while continuing to build something that the city can be proud of.

The Farmers Markets are part of a programme of events and speciality markets that will take place at the Market Hall through the year, in partnership with Derby Uncovered. Full details are available on the Derby Market Hall website.
