Derby City Council is supporting World Mental Health Day 2026 on 10 October, joining communities around the world to raise awareness of mental health and encourage open conversations about wellbeing.
This year's theme, "Lived experiences heard: real voices, real change" highlights the importance of listening to people with lived experience of mental health challenges and using those voices to inspire positive change.
Good mental health is fundamental to thriving communities. The Council continues to work with local partners, health services, voluntary organisations and community groups to support residents' wellbeing and reduce the stigma that can prevent people from seeking help.
As part of World Mental Health Day 2026, residents are encouraged to take time to check in with friends, family, neighbours and colleagues, start conversations about mental health, and find out more about the support available locally. The day aims to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilise action in support of mental health.
Mental health affects us all, and Derby City Council is committed to helping residents access the support they need while promoting positive mental wellbeing across the city.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, Leader of Derby City Council, said:
Mental health is an important part of our overall health and wellbeing. Through supporting World Mental Health Day, we want to encourage people to talk openly about mental health, seek support when they need it, and help create a city where everyone feels heard, valued and supported.
The 2026 theme reminds us that lived experiences matter. By listening to those voices, we can better understand mental health challenges and work together to make meaningful improvements for our communities.
