Business rates reminder service
We want to do everything we can to prevent our business rate payers getting into arrears on their business rates and to provide help while we collect what is due.
From June 2025, we are introducing an email reminder service to help businesses stay on top of business rates and avoid any potential issues.
These messages will go to any businesses that currently don’t pay their rates by Direct Debit, to remind businesses of upcoming payments and when instalments are overdue.
The email will be from business.rates@derby.gov.uk and will include your property address and the last four digits of your business rates account reference. You may receive multiple emails if you have multiple business accounts.
What you need to do
The email will have links to our website about payment methods so you can make prompt payment. If you’re having trouble paying, please get in touch with us as soon as possible by emailing business.rates@derby.gov.uk.
The service is offered to prevent customers from falling into arrears. It should not be relied upon and might not always be available.
It is your responsibility to maintain the instalment plan shown on your bill. If you do not do so, further recovery action will be taken.
Don't wait for recovery action to be taken against you as you could lose the right to pay by instalments and incur additional costs.
Pay by Direct Debit
The easiest and most convenient way to pay your business rates is by Direct Debit. You can spread your payments over 10 or 12 months, and we offer a wide choice of payment dates.
You can also manage your business rates online by signing up to myAccount.
Protecting your data
We will only send emails to the email address that we have on file for you. Any website links we include in the email will be to the website pages of Derby City Council or the Government. For information about how we process information, visit our Privacy notices pages.
