Residents across Derby will have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted household items closer to home as Community Waste Days come to neighbourhoods across the city.

Community Waste Days will be held at static sites and some selected streets throughout the city. Accepted items include bagged household and garden waste, furniture, soft furnishings and small amounts of DIY waste such as carpet and wood offcuts. Wards will be visited twice by the team so if you cannot make it to one date, another date will be available. If you have something that you feel is too good to throw away, we’re also accepting donations for our reuse shop at Raynesway HWRC.

Each event will be organised specifically for individual neighbourhoods and residents in those areas will receive a leaflet through their door ahead of the event giving information of the date, location collection times and what will be accepted.

Councillor Onuoha, Cabinet Member for Streetpride, Public Safety & Leisure, said:

Community Waste Days make it easier for residents to dispose of unwanted household items responsibly. We encourage residents to take advantage of these collections and check what items can and cannot be accepted before taking part. This is a great opportunity to dispose of your rubbish the right way and keep our neighbourhoods in Derby clean and tidy."

Items that cannot be accepted include:

  • Liquids (such as paint)
  • Oil and chemicals
  • Electrical items and batteries
  • Builders' waste including rubble
  • Bricks and plasterboard,
  • Hazardous waste (such as asbestos)
  • Gas bottles
  • and motor vehicle parts (including tyres)

Community Waste Days will take place across the city, with each ward hosting two events over the year. Residents can find out more about streetpride, recycling, waste and more by visiting our website.
