Working for Derby City Council
Derby City Council has been awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme silver award by the Ministry of Defence (MoD). The Employer Recognition Scheme is a national award for employers who have shown exceptional support to service personnel, veterans, and their families.
The Council has also extended its guaranteed interview scheme to allow all members of the armed forces community, veterans and their close family to be eligible for a guaranteed interview, providing that they meet the requirements of the job they are applying for.
Employment support
The Council has also worked with colleagues from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Royal British Legion (RBL) to help services leavers find work, as well as working with local businesses to encourage retailers and service providers to adopt the ‘Heroes Welcome’ initiative, to offer discounts or incentives to members of the community.
Derbyshire and Staffordshire DPW employ a dedicated District Armed Forces Champion, supporting those from the armed forces and their families to adjust and progress into employment.
The Council’s Employment and Skills Hub offers careers advice and employability support to members of the armed forces community. More information can be found about this on our Derby Jobs, Skills and Employment Hub webpages.
As well as this, the Council has worked with the University of Derby and Derby College to actively promote further and higher education opportunities to Service leavers. More information about opportunities available can be found on the University of Derby and Derby College websites.
