Waiting lists
If you don’t get a place at your preferred school, your child will automatically be put on the waiting list for this school.
We will contact you if a place comes up. In the meantime, we will offer you another of your preferences if there is space.
We will only keep children on a waiting list for an academic year. If you wish for your child to remain on the waiting list, you must contact us by 31 July 2025.
All children on the waiting list will have a criteria. Places will be offered first to those waiting in criteria one. Then criteria two, and so on.

How to find out where your child is on a waiting list
For new Year 7, Reception, and Junior Transfer 25/26, you can go into your account and view your child’s waiting list place. For all other, in year applications, please contact us at admissions@derby.gov.uk, giving your child’s name and date of birth and stating the schools you want to know about.
If you would like to know which schools have places in your area, please email admissions@derby.gov.uk with the name of the school and the year group for which you are enquiring.
